Top 25 Michigan high school boys basketball rankings (2/19/2024)

The Eaglets won the Catholic League (Bishop) final with a 58-55 win over Brother Rice on Saturday. St. Mary’s Prep moves on to Operation Friendship, an annual matchup between the champions of the Detroit Public School League (PSL) and the Catholic High School League (CHSL). The Eaglets will face off against Cass Tech on February 24. 

East Lansing was able to beat Capital Area (Blue) League foe DeWitt by a score of 64-40. The Trojans have won four games straight since losing to St. Mary’s Prep on February 3 (56-37). East Lansing moves one step closer to a league title, as they move on to play Grand Ledge on February 20. 

Dearborn edged out Belleville for a 46-44 win Friday night in a battle for first place in the Kensington Lakes League. Pioneer senior Ali Homayed scored the go-ahead layup in the final moments of the game to give his team the win. Dearborn is set to play Wayne Memorial next on February 19. 

The Eagles best rival Grand Rapids Northview 46-42 on Wednesday, and they dominated Forest Hills Northern 53-27 on Friday. Christian has won four games in a row since losing to Byron Center 49-43 on February 6. The Eagles are set to play Lowell next on February 20. 

The Warriors lost to St. Mary’s Prep in the CHSL final on Saturday by a score of 58-55. Brother Rice has lost all three matchups against the Eaglets this season. The Warriors will play Renaissance in the Operation Friendship consolation game on February 24. 

North Farmington demolished Detroit Communication Media Arts 79-11 on Friday, and it took care of Muskegon Reeths-Puffer by a score of 47-28 on Saturday. The Raiders have now won three games in a row since they lost to West Bloomfield 60-58 on February 6. North Farmington hosts Rochester Adams next on February 20. 

The Shamrocks fell to Brother Rice 57-50 on Tuesday, but they responded with a 77-67 win over Saginaw Heritage on Saturday. Detroit Catholic Central doesn’t have another regular season game scheduled, so the next time it’s in action will likely be in the district playoffs.

The Cubs defeated University Art Prep Art & Design (UPAD) 72-57 on Wednesday, as well as Western International on Saturday by a score of 90-44. U of D Jesuit doesn’t have any remaining games on its regular season schedule, so it will likely be a district tournament matchup the next time it takes the floor. 

De La Salle fell to St. Mary’s Prep by a score of 65-46 on Tuesday in the CHSL playoffs. The Pilots finished the regular season with an 0-3 record against the Eaglets. De La Salle hosts Utica next on February 20, and it is the final regular season game on its schedule. 

Lincoln was able to beat Roseville 71-57 on Tuesday, but it lost to Grosse Pointe South by a score of 59-56 on Saturday. The next time the Abes are in action, it will come in the district playoffs, as Saturday was the last regular season game on their schedule. 

West Bloomfield came out on top against Oak Park on Monday 74-56, and it also took down Clarkston 58-52 on Friday. Moving on in the Oakland Activities Association (OAA) playoffs, the Lakers are set to take on Groves next on February 20. 

The Technicians beat Detroit Western International 69-42 on Tuesday, and they captured their second straight PSL title with a win over Renaissance on Sunday (72-70). Sophomore guard Corey Sadler Jr had 17 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and five steals in the championship victory. Cass Tech will play St. Mary’s Prep in the annual Operation Friendship matchup on February 24. 

Ann Arbor Huron fell to rival Ann Arbor Pioneer 54-53 on Tuesday, but it was able to beat Ypsilanti Lincoln 56-52 on Friday. The only remaining regular season games on the River Rat schedule come on February 20 against Saline, and February 23 against River Rouge. 

Northview took a 46-42 loss against Grand Rapids Christian on Wednesday, but it got back in the win column on Friday with a 67-56 win over East Grand Rapids. The Wildcats only have two regular season games left on their schedule, visiting Byron Center on February 20 and hosting Greenville on February 23. 

Muskegon won all three of its games last week, most recently dominating Grand Blanc 59-29 on Saturday. The Big Reds have three games left on their regular season schedule, beginning with Kalamazoo Central on February 19.

The Chieftains were able to beat L’Anse Creuse 72-61 on Tuesday, as well as Fitzgerald on Saturday by a score of 48-34 to capture a MAC Blue/Gold championship. Utica may have its toughest test of the regular season coming up next, as it's set to visit De La Salle on February 20. 

East Kentwood demolished Grandville 83-45 on Tuesday, and it was also able to handle Rockford by a score of 62-49 on Friday. The Falcons are visiting Hudsonville next on February 19, a game that was originally supposed to be played on January 12, but was postponed due to weather. 

The Rams were able to beat Hudsonville 71-57 on Tuesday, but they fell to East Kentwood on Friday by a score of 62-49. It was Rockford’s first loss since losing to Muskegon 52-51 on December 15. The Rams are set to host West Ottawa next on February 20.

The Vikings were able to beat Manistee 73-32 on Tuesday, as well as Ludington on Friday by a score of 71-62. Whitehall is set to visit Fremont (2/20) and Oakridge (2/22) to close out its regular season. 

The Hawks beat Davison 74-59 on Tuesday, but they took a loss to Detroit Catholic Central on Saturday by a score of 77-67. It was Saginaw Heritage’s first loss since falling to De La Salle 75-53 on January 24. The Hawks have three regular season games on their schedule, with the first coming against Lapeer on February 20.

Summit Academy defeated Edison Academy 69-57 on Wednesday, but it lost to Old Redford Academy 52-51 in the Charter School Conference championship. Summit Academy North is set to play Woodhaven next on February 20. 

Davison fell to Saginaw Heritage by a score of 74-59 on Tuesday. It was the first loss the Cardinals have taken since losing to Detroit Catholic Central 80-65 on January 6. Davison has three games left on its regular season schedule, beginning with Bay City Western on February 20. 

The Blue Devils were able to knock off Warren Lincoln 59-56 on Saturday, putting their regular season series at 1-1. Grosse Pointe South is set to play Chelsea next on February 22. 

Hudsonville was beaten by Rockford on Tuesday 71-57, but it came back to beat West Ottawa 76-54 on Friday. The Eagles have four games left on their regular season schedule, but first they’ll have to beat East Kentwood (for the second time this season) on February 19

The Phoenix made it to the PSL championship on Sunday, but fell to Cass Tech 72-70. Renaissance’s last two losses have come at the hands of Cass Tech, with the first being a 88-85 loss on January 12. Renaissance will play Warren Fitzgerald next on February 28.
